First comes love, then comes the wedding planning! It takes time, but when the Big DayTM finally arrives, it’s amazing to see everything come to life. At Brideside, listening to wedding stories is one of our favorite activities, so we started asking brides about their special days. If you’ve got a #BridesideRealWedding story to share, let us know! We’d love to hear from you — and ugly-cry at your gorgeous wedding photos.

Bridesider Courtney Gets Hitched in the South

There was lots of excitement in the Brideside offices when our Charlotte stylist Courtney got married last summer! Courtney and Brian tied the knot in the heart of New Orleans, her hometown, surrounded by friends, family and parades. Their jazzy New Orleans wedding was one for the books, but you don’t have to take our word for it! Keep reading to learn more about Brideside real bride Courtney’s wedding planning experience and special day.

What was the best thing about your wedding day?

The best thing about our wedding day was having everyone we loved in one room. I don’t think that will ever happen again. We were engaged for almost two years, so seeing all of my hard work come together was worth it all. Most guests traveled to New Orleans and watching everyone experience my favorite city was the icing on the cake.

Where did you have your ceremony and reception?

Our ceremony was at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the reception was at the Roosevelt Hotel in the Blue Room, both in New Orleans.

Describe your wedding style in three words.

Classic, traditional, simple.

Give us your best advice for future brides.

Enjoy every second!! The planning process will FLY by. Your wedding day is the most amazing day, but I will always cherish the days leading up to it and being surrounded by the people we love the most. Take some time just the two of you to really appreciate everyone you love all being in one room for the two of you.

How did you meet your partner?

Brian and I met at work in New Orleans. We were both interns at the time and secretly dated for over a year. We then dated long distance for a year before moving to Charlotte together.

As a Brideside stylist, you have lots of product and trend knowledge at your fingertips… How did you choose your bridesmaid dresses?

It was honestly overwhelming even for me, so I totally get it! I wanted all my girls to be comfortable and love what they wore. I knew I wanted a light blue color but I was torn between two designers. I loved both so much, but thought it was so cool that my sister and I used the same designer (Amsale) for our bridesmaids. I ended up being in Chicago for work and had my mom and sister come “bridesmaid dress shopping” at the Brideside Chicago showroom with me.

Does your family have any wedding traditions? What are they?

Yes, when my sister got married I made her a handkerchief for her bouquet with her new initials in blue and lined it with a lace trim that I took from our mom’s veil. When it was my turn to get married, my sister did the same for me with my new initials. I wrapped it around my bouquet with a rosary from my late grandfather. I plan to do the same for my little niece when she gets married.

How did you meet your MOH? (Maid/Matron of honor)

My matron of honor was my sister. Fun fact: I wore the same dress in her wedding but in a different color! 🙂

Sister, Sister! Courtney wore Amsale G878C in ‘Blush’ for his sister’s wedding, and her sister wore Amsale G878C in ‘Ice’ in hers!

How did you ask your bridesmaids to be part of the bridal party?

I sent my girls a Greetabl (a personalized paper gift box) packed with champagne gummy bears and photos of the two of us throughout our friendship.

What did you do for your bachelorette party?

We rented a house on the beach in Seaside, Florida and it was honestly one of the best weekends of my life. Being surrounded by some of the most important women in my life meant everything to me. Seaside has the cutest little downtown area where we walked to get coffee in the morning and spent time walking through the shops.

What was your first dance song? First song that got everyone on the dance floor?

“Your Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne was our first dance song. Then the band played “Rolling on the River” by Tina Turner and invited the bridesmaids and me on the stage to dance with them.

Anything fun or a great story you want to share? (We’re wedding obsessed.)

We had a live painter at our wedding. It was such a hit with all the guests at the wedding and now we have it hanging in our house together. Because we got married in my hometown of New Orleans, we had a traditional New Orleans second line where we paraded down to the Hotel Monteleone Carousel Bar where we had our first date.
